Like most things in 2020, the Inauguration was also different from past ones. There weren’t nearly as many people, there was no ball, and everyone had to wear masks.

For former President Obama’s first inauguration, there were 1.8 million people who attended it. Only 1,000 people were allowed to go to President Biden’s inauguration. There were a lot more people watching at home than usual. Everyone who did attend the inauguration had to wear masks and had to be socially distanced. Also, there is usually Inauguration Day balls for the new president, which were canceled due to Covid-19. However, Covid wasn’t the only reason there were differences at the inauguration.

Due to the recent attack on the Capitol building, there were a lot more security measures at President Biden’s inauguration. Also, former President Donald Trump did not attend President Biden’s inauguration. It is a tradition for former President’s to attend the new President’s inauguration. This tradition has been broken before but this is the first time in 150 years that it has happened.
